There are many car brands that sell their cars in India. Not only Indian but German, Japanese, American, Italian, & many other car companies opened their subsidiaries to manufacture and sell their cars in India.

1 Maruti Suzuki

The automobile manufacturer was founded in 1981. The Government Of India founded the company and used to own it until 2003. Formerly, it was known as Maruti Udyog Limited. Then, in the year 2003, the Japanese automobile manufacturer Suzuki Motor Corporation bought the company. Which is the world’s 10th largest automobile company by sales volume.

So now Suzuki Motor Corporation is the parent company of Maruti Suzuki India Limited with a stake of 56.37%. The company manufactures Automobiles, Commercial vehicles, & Automotive parts.

Some of the Maruti vehicles such as Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Maruti Suzuki Alto, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, & Maruti Suzuki Eeco are top-selling vehicles in India.

Hyundai Motor Company is a South Korean automobile manufacturing company that owns Hyundai Motor India. It entered the Indian market in 1996. When it entered the market there were only Indian car manufacturers like Maruti, Hindustan, Premier, Tata, and Mahindra.

At first, they launched Hyundai Santro in India which become a huge success. Since then Hyundai dominating the Indian market. Now Hyundai Motor Limited is the second-largest automobile manufacturer. It has a market share of 16.24%. Surprisingly Hyundai Motor sells vehicles in 193 countries.

Hyundai Motor Limited has 2 plants in India with a capacity for manufacturing 7,40,000 cars per year. HML manufacturers only automobiles in India. Although the Hyundai Motor Compay manufactures Automobiles, Luxury cars, Commercial Vehicles, and Engines.

HML has some best-selling cars in India such as Hyundai Elite i20, Hyundai, Grand i10, and Hyundai Creta. One and only Shah Rukh Khan is the brand ambassador of Hyundai.

3 Tata Motors

Then in 1954, they entered the commercial vehicle sector. Tata Motors manufactures Automobiles, Luxury vehicles, Commercial vehicles, Automotive parts, Pickup trucks, & SUVs.

Surprisingly Tata Motors acquired Jaguar Land Rover, a luxury vehicle manufacturer in 2008. Since the acquisition of its subsidiary Tata Motors. Undoubtedly, Tata is among the Indian car companies that are ruling the market. With over 8,800 sales and service points, Tata Motors is the third-largest sales and service network.

Tata has manufacturing plants at Pune, Jamshedpur, Pantnagar, Lucknow, Sananda, and Dharwadin. Not only this, but it also has manufacturing plants in the UK, Argentina, South Africa, and Thailand. The company sold 76,210 units of its vehicles in May 2022. Tata Nexon is the most selling among Tata cars in India. M&M is part of Mahindra Group, an Indian MNC conglomerate. It is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers by production in India. It is the first Indian company to open a car manufacturer plant in the USA. Before M&M no other Indian company had a plant in the USA.

In 2018 the company ranked #18 by Fortune India 500. In the year 2020, the production output is 4,76,043 vehicles. Mahindra has some popular car models such as Scorpio, Bolero, Xylo, etc. The M&M best-selling cars are Mahindra Thar, Mahindra XUV300, & Mahindra XUV700. In January 2022 the company sold 19,860 vehicles.

5 Kia India

Kia is a South Korean automobile manufacturer company. To operate in India Kia formed a company called Kia India Private Limited in 2019. Comparatively, it is a new car company in India. But still, Kia becomes a well-known brand in a short time. Hyundai Motor Company is the parent company of Kia Corporation. Now Kia manufactures automobiles in India. The Indian Kia plant has a capacity of manufacturing 300,000 vehicles per year.

Some of the popular models are Sonet, Carnival, Carens, EV6, & Seltos. Even though it’s a new company Kia manufactured 227,844 vehicles in 2021. The automotive company has 236 showrooms in India.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, a Japanese automotive manufacturer company. It is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. Founded in 1997, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is a joint venture between Toyota and Kirloskar. The Toyota Corporation was founded in 1937.

Toyota entered the Indian market in 1887. Since then they never looked back again. The giant car company has a capacity of manufacturing 320,000 vehicles per year. Toyota has some popular cars manufactured/assembled in India i.e. Toyota Camry, Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Hilux, Lexus ES300h, and Lexus NX300h.

Founded in 1899, Renault is a French automotive manufacturer brand. Previously Renault used to produce trucks, tractors, tanks, & aircraft engines. But now Renault manufactures automobiles, electric vehicles, commercial vehicles, & luxury cars.

Renault entered the Indian market in the year 2005. And they registered Renault India Private Limited. They are selling only four models in India SUV Duster, MPV Triber, SUV Kiger, and  Kwid. It sells only 4 models but still, it’s one of the popular car brands.

Only in the month of April 2022, 2910 Renault Triber were sold in India. The company won a bunch of awards from different organizations such as Car India, Zig Wheels, Indian Car Of Year, NDTV, Economic Times, and many others.

Renault has a facility of manufacturing 480,000 units per year. The automotive company has 575 dealerships across 455 cities.

Although It’s an American company but operates in multiple countries including India. Ford India was founded in 1995 as a joint venture between Ford and Mahindra & Mahindra.

As of September 2021, the company had 400 showrooms in India. Currently, they are only selling 1 model in India which is Ford Mustang. The company announced that it will stop the production of Ford in India. But after 4 months they announced they will come back to India as an EV (Electric Vehicle) maker.

Then after so many years, the whole Mercedes Group changed its name to Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes is the 2nd largest automaker in German. Now it is also the largest luxury car maker in India.
